To Touch His Garment

The Hem of His Garment

Matthew 9:20-23 King James Version (KJV)

20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

Can you picture her? Sneaking through the crowds, pushed here and there by the eagerness of those who wanted to see Christ? Hiding her head, shooting looks around to see if she was seen and recognized. Just knowing if she could talk to Him she would be whole.

According to Jewish law, she would have been an outcast, considered unclean. She had lived like that for years, shunned likely by family and friends. It doesn’t say if she was rich or poor, but that doesn’t matter. She would have spent everything she could for healing with no success. Until she heard of the new Healer. A man from Nazareth named Jesus.

Closer and closer she moved, her eyes searching, not wanting to be seen or recognized. Finally, she reached the edge of the crowd as He walked by. It was too late. She couldn’t speak with Him, but she could reach for His garment. Maybe, just maybe, she thought, if I only can touch His garment, His cloak, I can be healed. I have nothing to lose, now do I?

She reached out a shaky hand, her focus totally on what she was doing. One touch was all it took. She was healed. Jesus turned and spoke to her, telling her she was free of sins, free of whatever it was that had plagued her for the last years.

She had more than physical healing. She had mental, emotional healing. She had salvation given to her without her even asking for it.

What healing do you need today? God knows exactly where you are and what you need to be whole. Reach out that shaky hand and touch the garment. God heals.
